POULSBO, WA – Academy for Lifelong Learning on the Peninsulas (ALL) is proud to present its fall 2018/winter 2019 catalog of courses for adults of all ages. The classes will be offered in five cities: Kingston (Village Green Community Center), Shelton (Olympic College), Poulsbo (Olympic College), Port Townsend (Fort Worden) and Bremerton (Olympic College and Kitsap History Museum). Course registration is now open.
In association with Western Washington University on the Peninsulas, ALL offers short, university-level classes in humanities, current affairs, and natural and social sciences. Courses are taught by instructors recruited from a diverse pool of current and retired faculty, as well as professionals and scholars from local communities.
There are no entrance requirements, tests, or grades; it’s simply learning for the joy of learning. Each classroom environment is meant to foster interdisciplinary exploration, discussion and exchange of ideas.
“The Academy for Lifelong Learning is now entering its third year, and the response has been wonderfully positive. Both instructors and participants seem to be thoroughly enjoying these classes,” said Candi Merrill, director of Operations, Western on the Peninsulas. “We have a great selection of courses this year, with some favorite instructors returning and a few new instructors joining as well. If you enjoy programs like ‘Nova,’ ‘Nature’ and ‘Masterpiece Theater,’ you will probably find a course in this fall/winter lineup that you will love.”
All interested adults – whether working or retired – are invited to participate. The following list is a sample of the courses offered this fall:
- The Cascadia Subduction Zone and the Coming Megathrust Earthquake
- New Discoveries in Science: Epigenetics, Genetics, and Gene Modification
- Photography Workshop: What Makes Up a Good Composition?
- Exploring Ancient Egypt: Pyramids, Tombs, and Pharaohs
