Records and Information Management Month and Updated Retention Schedules

Did you know April is Records and Information Management Month, and we have updated retention schedules to celebrate!

University Archives and Records Management is pleased to announce that on April 3, the State Records Committee approved updates to the University’s records retention schedules. You can find the updated versions of the University’s general records retention schedules on the University Archives and Records Management website:

We also want to remind you of all the great things University Archives and Records Management (UARM) can offer you, and not just in Records and Information Management Month!

Is your inbox overflowing? Is your shared drive a jungle? Need help with your bulging filing cabinets? Not sure how to handle records during personnel changes? We can help!

What UARM offers all university employees:

Consultation: University Archives and Records Management staff are available via phone and email during University business hours (see below for contact info). Feel free to contact us with questions you may have about records; we’re here to help!

Training: UARM training can be found on the WWU Training Portal. We are offering three trainings this quarter: Managing Your Records at Western on April 29, Digital Records Management on May 7, and Managing Your Email on May 15. UARM also provides tailored training to individuals and program units upon request.

Storage: The University Archives and Records Center provides storage for paper records, both archival and non-archival, and for digital archival records. To transfer paper records, contact Rachel Thompson (x6654). For questions relating to digital records storage, contact Tony Kurtz (x3124).

Archives: UARM is also the official repository for preserving the historical records of WWU (paper or digital). We also provide expert assistance in accessing the University’s historical archives. Contact Tony Kurtz (x3124) to determine if your records need to be transferred, or if you need to do historical research in the archives.
