President Randhawa Awards Asia University America Program Student Speech Winners

WWU President Sabah Randhawa recently presented an award to two students from Japan, Uyanga Otgon and Chihiro Kumagai, who are studying in the WWU-Asia University America Program (AUAP), a five-month study abroad program, now in its 30th year.

Uyanga and Chihiro were chosen by their classmates and teachers to win the award for best speech about their experiences at Western and how they have grown and changed through studying abroad.  Forty-five AUAP students are completing their 5-month stay at WWU and each student has written an essay and speech reflecting on highlights of their relationships and experiences at WWU.  If you would like to hear Uyanga and Chihiro talk about their experiences as an international student at WWU, please come to the AUAP Closing Ceremony to be held on Friday, February 8th, 6:30pm in AW 204.

Japanese students come to WWU from Asia University in Tokyo for five-month cycles. The 60th group of students are completing their program next week.  Asia University students receive a high quality English language, cultural orientation and study abroad program while at the same time offering American students expanded opportunities for language and cultural interaction, exchange and involvement.

Since 1988, over 4,100 Asia University students have participated in the WWU AUAP, with similar numbers participating in the programs at CWU and EWU. The consortium has offered one of the most successful large-scale, long-term study abroad programs in the United States.

Visit AUAP https://ee.wwu.edu/asia-university-america-program for ways to get involved or for more information about the WWU-AUAP program. Follow us on Instagram@WWU-AUAP and Facebook @WWUAUAP for announcements about events and the next cycle of 35 WWU-AUAP students arriving on campus Monday, Feb. 25.
