Presentations to introduce students to jobs in public service

The Career Services Center at Western Washington University has organized a series of events to inform students on careers in public service. Three upcoming events feature dedicated, experienced public service employees who will be on campus to inspire students to learn more about jobs and internships in government.

Americorps: the insiders’ guide to everything you need to know: 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Viking Union Room 552.

The Career Services Center and the Center for Service Learning is hosting a panel of current and past Americorps members to help students and graduates explore opportunities with Americorps. This government agency offers 75,000 opportunities nationwide in community development, environment, public safety, housing, youth development, and more. The panel will share insights to help the audience learn more about the experience and its benefits, choose the program that fits their skills and needs and get the inside scoop on the application process.

Government Career Information Panel: Make a Difference!: Noon to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in Viking Union Room 567.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Drug Enforcement Agency, Peace Corps, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell's Office and the Washington State Attorney General's Office will share job search tips and valuable insight into the benefits of working in the public sector.  

U.S. State Department Internships and Foreign Officer Careers: 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in Viking Union Room 552.

Join Paul Stephenson for an informative hour to learn about opportunities with the U.S. State Department.  Students considering a career or internship in diplomacy, international economics, cultural exchange, global environmental initiatives and more will want to attend. Stephenson brings a wealth of experience and served as Counselor of Embassy in Copenhagen, Consul in Hong Kong and Deputy Consul General in Shenyang, China.
