Phi Kappa Phi offers service award for WWU campus organizations

The Western Washington University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi will give for the first time this year a service award recognizing a campus organization that exemplifies the Phi Kappa Phi mission -- “May the love of Learning Rule Humanity” -- through a project completed in the 2011-2012 school year.

The competition is open to all campus organizations that engage members in activities that broaden academic pursuit and provide service to others. The winning organization will receive a significant cash award and will be announced at the Academic Excellence Banquet on May 17 as part of Scholars Week.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

To apply for the recognition, campus organizations should submit an application that outlines the nature of a specific project following the submission format below by April 1. The project must have been initiated and completed between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012. It should have significant and active student involvement and participation both in organization and project execution. Projects that have the best chance of winning the award are those that:

  • have a significant impact on learning
  • address a compelling issue on campus or in the community
  • involve or serve a variety of individuals
  • exhibit originality or innovation
  • involve WWU students in both planning and execution
