Panel to discuss life, success and leadership after college Nov. 19

A roundtable panel and discussion on life after college will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Communications Facility Room 110.

On the panel are Jane Carten, director and president of Saturna Capital; Joyce Buck, director of marketing at Verizon Wireless; Molly Adolfson, senior vice president at Environmental Science Associates; and Susan Harker, vice president of Global Talent Acquisition at Amazon. Karen Stout, the Bowman Distinguished Professor in Leadership and director of the Karen W. Morse Institute for Leadership at Western, will moderate.

Panelists will discuss their careers and professional development, focusing especially on the significance of their majors to their work, how they thought about their careers early on after college, how they were able to become leaders in their field, the ways in which gender played a role in their work, the impact of diversity in their lives and careers, the role of mentorship and the challenges and opportunities of work-life balance.

About the panelists:

  • Susan Harker received her bachelor's degree political science and her master's in international studies from WWU. She has a wealth of experience in executive recruiting, campus recruiting, recruiting programs, recruiting operations and systems and diversity.
  • Jane Carten is a WWU alumna with an MBA and undergraduate degree in computer science and business.
  • Joyce Buck is an established leader with 20 years of overall experience in the wireless telecommunications industry.
  • Molly Adolfson is senior vice president, sustainability officer, and Pacific Northwest Water leader for Environmental Science Associates in Seattle. She holds a bechelor's degree in environmental science from Western's Huxley College of the Environment.
