Palestinian human rights activist to present Wednesday on campus

The World Issues Forum lecture for this week, from Omar Barghouti, is titled “Israel, South Africa and the Jim Crow South: Resisting Apartheid.”

Barghouti is a Palestinian human rights activist and co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement for Palestinian rights.

According to a press release about the series, the presentation will cover the origins, motives, successes and inspirations behind the non-violent global, Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions human rights movement and the underpinning ethical principles that connect it to the struggle against apartheid South Africa and the Civil Rights movement in the United States. The ethical responsibility of Americans in breaking the links of complicity with Israel's regime of occupation, colonization and apartheid are highlighted.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will take place at noon in the Fairhaven Auditorium on campus.
