Office of Sustainability to host Earth Day panel, "What Earth Day Offers Us," on April 22

The Office of Sustainability is delighted to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with an event at noon on Thursday, April 22. "What Earth Day Offers Us" will provide a look back at the history of Earth Day, a review of what our community is doing now, and a call for everyone to engage in simple, sustainable actions. The event will feature a panel of local sustainability advocates and offer an opportunity for Q&A.

The panel will include:

• Steve Hollenhorst, Dean of Huxley College of the Environment

• Zarea Lavalais, Associated Students Vice President for Sustainability

• Seth Vidana, Climate and Energy Manager for the City of Bellingham

• Grace Wang, Chair of the Department of Environmental Studies

Students, staff, faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend to hear about how Western Washington University and Bellingham are tackling climate change and environmental justice.

The event will be held on Zoom; the meeting information follows. Please reach out to Johnathan Riopelle in the Office of Sustainability if you have any questions or require accommodations.

Every year Earth Day offers an opportunity to reflect on how we can improve our relationship with the environment through personal and civic sustainable action. I hope you’ll join us for this discussion of what we can do today.
