October is National Energy Awareness month!

This fall is all about highlighting how effortless energy conservation can be. Simple habit changes can help Western Washington University, and Bellingham reduce energy consumption without affecting your quality of life. Puget Sound Energy will share some of its most effortless and impactful energy conservation tips weekly throughout October to motivate our community to decrease our energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Shut-it-down when you’re not around:

  • PUT A STAKE IN ENERGY VAMPIRES: switch to smart power strips, set up plug timers, and practice good old-fashioned unplugging
Table lists various office items and shows their electrical use even when powered off
    • SUPER SUCKERS: Cell Phone Chargers, Microwaves, Printers, Digital Displays (TVs), and Computer Monitors

  • CLOSE WINDOWS when leaving a room, target nightly window closing in empty areas
  • TURN OFF DIGITAL DISPLAYS and monitors after-hours

Western invites you to challenge yourself to adopt these easy and effective practices to help save energy on campus and in your home!
