Nominations Sought for Community Service Award

Nominations are being accepted for the Philip E. Sharpe Community Engagement Award.  Named in honor of former Board of Trustee member and active community volunteer Phil Sharpe, this recognition is given to a Western employee (or group of Western employees) for going above and beyond in their service to others.

We all know someone with whom we work who is a pillar in the volunteer community.  Western has a long history of service to others and this is a chance for that work to be acknowledged and appreciated by all.   The award is presented at opening Convocation and is a great way to recognize a colleague who does so much outside of their work responsibilities for the greater Bellingham, Whatcom or even world community.

Past recipients include: James Loucky, 2012 (Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival); David Willett, 2013 (work in Malawi; numerous City of Bellingham volunteer positions); Jeff Carroll, 2014 (Huntington’s Disease research dissemination); Vernon “Damani” Johnson, 2015 (race and social justice issues); and Pete Elich Jr., 2016 (YMCA volunteer and youth coach).

Nominations are due by June 30.  Please click here to complete a short nomination form:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2YH36XJ
