Nominations open for Outstanding Classified Staff Award at WWU

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Aug. 6, for the 2010 Outstanding Classified Staff Award at Western Washington University. The award recognizes an individual who exemplifies a positive and creative approach to problem solving and innovation that significantly advances departmental goals and/or university mission.

With the support of WWU President Bruce Shepard, the two classified staff unions on campus (Washington Federation of State Employees and Public School Employees) together select one of their members to receive this award, which is presented each year at opening convocation in the fall.

Criteria: To be considered, the individual must demonstrate contribution to the work unit, department, college or university that furthers the university’s mission and strategic goals through any of the following ways:

  • Excellence in job performance that results in efficiencies
  • Personal initiative and leadership that supports and builds a positive work environment
  • Innovative approach to problem-solving that enables sustained improvement
  • Completed scholarly or creative work that contributes to Western’s learning community

Nomination Process: All nominations must be submitted via the on-line nomination form by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6. Nominations may be made by any university faculty member or staff member. Nominees must be a permanent classified staff member who has completed one year of service by Aug. 6.

The award recipient will be recognized at opening convocation on Friday, Sept. 17. He or she will be the first recipient of this award.
