Nominations for Women of Color Empowerment Award due May 6

The 2016 Women of Color Empowerment Dinner is scheduled for May 13, and that means that nominations for the 18th Annual Women of Color Empowerment Award are due soon.

The purpose of the award is to recognize a student, faculty or staff member at Western Washington University who has mentored or encouraged students who are women of color. This award honors an individual who has demonstrated excellence in contribution to women of color while enhancing understanding and sensitivity to their issues and concerns. All enrolled students, faculty, and staff of Western are eligible.

Nominees may demonstrate some or all of the following characteristics:

  • Creative
  • Compassionate
  • Determined
  • Inspirational
  • Positive
  • Supportive
  • Advocate
  • Community-builder
  • Innovator
  • Leader
  • Mentor
  • Teacher/friend

Former award recipients include: Sonia Arévalo-Hayes, Kayla Britt, Janna Cecka, Dr. Reneé Collins, Maria del Rosario Corona-Horta, Marie Eaton, Dr. Lawrence Estrada, Dr. Kristen French, Stephany Hazelrigg, Cecily Hazelrigg-Hernandez, Cora Hill, Dr. Rosanne Kanhai, Doris Kent, Dr. Violet Malone, Liz Partolan-Fray, Shar Sarte-Prince, Dr. Midori Takagi, Dr. Kathleen Tomlonovic and Joan Ullin.

Completed nomination forms should be submitted either by email or in person by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6, to:
