Newest version of WWU Mobile app now available for Android, Apple devices

The newest version of the WWU Mobile app for smartphones and tablets has been released and is available for free download via the App Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android users; search the relevant app store for “WWU Mobile.”

The app has features such as a campus map, a feed of campus news and events from Western Today, a campus calendar, feeds from Western’s various social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook, a faculty and staff directory, class schedules, online bill pay, athletics schedules and news, and campus photos.

The newest version of the app adds Canvas functionality, allowing students and faculty to access Western’s course-management system via their mobile device, and, for Android users only, a “Western Wheels” app in the Links section with full WTA bus schedules. The newest version also includes a fix for Apple users; in older versions, launching some of the features in the app would take you off the app with no way to get back except to re-launch it, but this has been remedied in the new version.

The majority of the coding work for the app was done by Bob Finch in Administrative Computing Services; the app’s icons and graphic interface were provided by Marie Raney and her team in Web Communication Technologies and graphic artist Derek Bryson from University Communications and Marketing.
