Newcomer earns best paper award at engineering conference

Jeff Newcomer, a professor of engineering technology at Western Washington University, recently received an award for best paper at the Frontiers in Education conference.

The Benjamin Dasher Award, given each year to the best paper/presentation at the conference, was awarded for Newcomer's paper "Inconsistencies in Students’ Approaches to Solving Problems in Engineering Statics," which he presented at the 2010 conference in Arlington, Va. Newcomer will be given the award at the 2011 conference in Rapid City, S.D.

FIE is an engineering education conference co-sponsored by the ASEE Educational Research and Methods Division, the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Education Society. The conference is viewed as one of the best in the world on engineering education.
