New Hub for Graduate Students Coming Soon to Western Libraries

Over the course of the 2022-2023 academic year, Western Libraries will be renovating library spaces on the second floor of Haggard Hall to create a physical location for the new Kitto Graduate Student Hub. Once complete, this new space (adjacent to the Student Technology Center) will include focused consultation rooms, flexible seating and study options, and technology to support both in-person and hybrid engagement.

Supported by a generous foundational gift from Dean Emerita of the Graduate School Kathy Kitto and her husband Dennis Waller, the Kitto Graduate Student Hub will be both a physical and virtual space that brings together programs and student support services designed specifically for graduate students. Program partners include Western Libraries, the Graduate School, and other units across the university. As the physical Kitto Graduate Student Hub space unfolds, the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio and the Graduate School will be offering workshops and other opportunities for community-building in nearby and adjacent spaces on the second floor of Haggard. Initial programming offered for the 2022-23 school year includes workshops on grant writing, professional skills development, strengths-based learning, research and writing, among others. There are also weekly ‘Open Studio’ hours for graduate students to troubleshoot their projects, find support and accountability, and develop skills relevant to their research.
