New director named for procurement/business services

Peter Heilgeist has been named the new the director of procurement/business services at Western.
Heilgeist has served as director of purchasing for Southern Utah University for the past 19 years and has 10 years of experience in private industry with Rockwell International.

"We are delighted Pete has agreed to join Western as the director of procurement/business services," said Brian Sullivan, assistant vice president for Business and Financial Affairs at Western. "He is a highly skilled leader with strong communication skills, extensive procurement and contracting experience, has implemented sustainability programs and led project teams and initiatives, and administered multi-million dollar budgets. He is an excellent addition to our team."

As the director of procurement/business services, Heilgeist will provide vision and direction for the operations of Purchasing, Business Services, Contract Administration, and IT procurement initiatives. He will continue to build Western's procurement/contract teams' achievements by directing daily operations of the department, establishing priorities and creating best-in-class customer service for the campus.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join Western Washington University," he said. "I look forward to collaboratively working with the professional staff, faculty and WWU community overall to provide best-in-class practices to the Procurement office. My family and I are looking forward to relocating to this beautiful area of Washington state."

Heilgeist has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Southern Utah University. He will begin his duties on Feb. 3.
