New degree evaluation tool helps students and advisers plan for the future

WWU has an online degree evaluation tool available to both students and advisers via Web4U. Degree Evaluation produces a report that compares WWU and transfer course work against degree requirements. Degree Evaluation should not take the place of regular academic advising but is a great tool to assist in the advising process. The information contained in the report makes it easy for students and advisers to review outstanding degree requirements, prepare for registration and monitor academic progress toward completion of a degree or the General University Requirements.

Those who are set up in Banner as advisers can log onto Web4U to request, view and print degree evaluations for any available degree program. Advisers who do not have access to the Advisors menu within Web4U should ask their department chairs to email ro.forms@wwu.edu in the Registrar's Office to request Advisor status. The message text should include the prospective adviser's W number and name.

Information about Degree Evaluation, including frequently asked questions and instructions on how to run a degree evaluation, is available on the Degree Evaluation Web site. Degree Evaluation is available for most undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Exceptions include Fairhaven majors, Art (BFA) majors, Design (BFA) majors and student- and faculty-designed majors.

The involvement of the academic departments is critical to the success of Degree Evaluation. The criteria used to evaluate a student’s academic progress is provided by departments by way of the University Catalog. The more clearly defined the requirements, the better the Degree Evaluation will be for the student.

Degree Evaluation training is available by sending an email request to capp@wwu.edu. Please include your name, department or office and days and times you are available. You will be contacted to schedule the training.

Contact either Linda Luke (linda.luke@wwu.edu or ext. 7687) or Carolyn Swinburne (carolyn.swinburne@wwu.edu or ext. 6536) to report discrepancies, errors or omissions on the report; to get assistance in running Degree Evaluation; or to provide feedback on your experience with the online degree evaluation tool.
