New announcements feature now on myWestern

A new announcements feature is now available on the myWestern portal.

This new feature no longer simply has a long list of announcements displayed in the portal. Instead, it lists an associated topic for each announcement that is displayed, such emergency, technology info or personal and professional development.

Users are able to opt in or out of receiving announcements associated with most of the topics by using a subscription tool. Some topics, such as emergency, always are shown. But for the other topics, users may display just those announcements they want to see. To manage topics, click on the ‘My Subscriptions’ link at the bottom of the announcements area and follow the directions. For more information, contact the ATUS Help Desk at ATUS.HelpDesk@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3333.

All announcements now will be created in the myWestern portal; BullsEye no longer will be used for this purpose. All faculty and staff have the ability to create announcements. To do so, visit the myWestern portal and follow these steps:

  • Click on the Add content button on the top right of the page
  • Select the Portlet: ‘Announcements Admin’, then click ‘Add To My Page’
  • Find the topic that you want, then click on ‘gear’ symbol to the right of it
  • Select the + Add Announcement button
  • Fill in appropriate categories (title, abstract, message, start/end dates, etc.)
  • Select Save Announcement
  • The Announcements Admin portlet will now show your announcement as ‘Pending’

Each announcement topic has an assigned editor. After announcements are submitted, they are sent to the editor for that topic, who will then publish it (make it appear on the announcements list), or contact the submitter for changes or clarification.
