Multicultural Center Construction Update: June 26

During intersession last week contractors worked towards getting concrete footings and structures in place so that installation of steel supports can begin in July. A large tower crane was also delivered to the project site to help with the next phase of construction (crane seen at far right in photo below).

July will be a busy month as the contractors begin installing the steel framework for the new addition. Steel deliveries and layout and prep activities will increase traffic on High Street the first two weeks of July.

Contractors will start demolition and construction on the7th floor of the VU on July 9th. They’ll build temporary construction walls around what is currently #714 to isolate the space and minimize construction impacts. This space will be demolished and turned into four single occupant restrooms and a new entrance for KUGS.

Work continues in the spaces that formerly housed the VU Gallery and the Student Life Office (#506 and #507). Crews will prepare to pour more concrete and structural supports.

Please note that flaggers are no longer on High St. during construction hours.  Flaggers will only be used to help control traffic and guide vehicles during deliveries.  Please continue to be cautious around the project site and use crosswalks and sidewalks as directed by the construction signs.
