Moving to Teams Voice

In this time of uncertainty, we as a community have increasingly come to rely upon technology to bridge the distances between us.  One of the most important technologies to help faculty, students, and staff connect with each other has been Microsoft Teams.

In order to further strengthen those connections, and improve opportunities for remote collaboration and instruction, Western’s IT Services has embarked upon a project to digitally transform our voice communications.  In this project, we will decommission our legacy telephone systems (PBX and Skype), and move all traditional phone calling to Microsoft Teams Voice.

Over the coming months, the Project Team will be reaching out to individuals and departments to coordinate the move from their present phone systems and workflows to the new Teams environment.  The project’s Core Team, comprised of both IT and non-IT representatives from across the university, will be guiding the project.  The first 400 users have already been successfully migrated, and we will begin broader migrations starting in September.  Our goal is to complete the project by December 2021, with most departments converted to Teams Voice by the end of Fall 2020.

If you have any questions, or if you are an early adopter itching to be at the front of the line, please reach out to Deborah Frost, Project Manager, at dfrost@wwu.edu

Thank you for your patience and support as we move forward.  Be well.
