Memorial service for Alex Binkerd is Oct. 3

A memorial service for Alex Binkerd will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 (11 a.m.) at the Timberlake Christian Church, located at 4505 236th Ave. N.E. in Redmond, Wash.

Binkerd, a student-athlete at Western Washington University, passed away suddenly on Wednesday (Sept. 23).

Binkerd, a computer-science major with a 3.96 (4.0 scale) grade point average, was a sprinter on the WWU men’s track & field team.

Last spring, Binkerd helped the Vikings to a four-point victory for the team title at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, being on the victorious 4x100-meter relay while placing fifth in the 100 and fourth as a member of the 4x400 relay.

Binkerd also competed in indoor track, placing fourth in both the 200 and 4x400 relay and sixth in the 60 at the 2015 GNAC Championships.

A graduate of Redmond High School, Binkerd attended the University of Washington as a freshman.
