Linda Teater appointed as budget director at WWU

Rich Van Den Hul, vice president for Business and Financial Affairs, said he is pleased to announce that Linda Teater has accepted the budget director position at Western Washington University.

“Linda knows the challenges and opportunities for the Budget Office and, based on the comments I received through the search process, it is clear that she has earned the respect and support of the campus,” Van Den Hul said.

Teater has served since 2011 as associate operating budget director at Western and since 2012 as interim director. She succeeds Paula Gilman, who has retired from Western.

“I have received tremendous support during my appointment as interim director, for which I am very grateful. I am excited about this opportunity to serve Western and look forward to continuing our work to bring best-in-class practices to the Budget Office,” Teater said.

Teater has an MBA and bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). She has more than 23 years of experience in higher education administration. Prior to working at Western, she served from 1989 to 2011 at UMKC in various roles over the years, including director of Business Affairs in the School of Pharmacy; manager of Business and Fiscal Operations for the Division of Student Affairs; budget specialist, and senior accountant in the Division of Administrative Affairs.
The budget director at Western is responsible for University resource planning and budgeting, including development of the University’s biennial operating budget request and development and administration of the University’s operating budget in support of Western’s strategic plan.

The director is also responsible for: conducting comprehensive reviews and analyses of state and University budget issues; analysis of budget planning drivers, such as enrollment patterns and trends; long-term revenue and expenditure projections, and the development, analysis and presentation of policy recommendations with fiscal implications. The budget director reports to the vice president for Business and Financial Affairs.
