'Lemony Snicket' author to speak Oct. 25 at Western

Author Daniel Handler, also known as Lemony Snicket, will present “Why Does Lemony Snicket Keep Following Me?” at Western Washington University’s Fall Family Open House from 7:30-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Performing Arts Center’s  Main Stage on Western’s Campus.

Handler is the author of several novels, including “The Basic Eight,” “Watch Your Mouth,” “Adverbs,” and the Michael J. Printz Honor-winning “Why We Broke Up,” a collaboration with illustrator Maira Kalman. He collaborated with Kalman on “Girls Standing on Lawns” and “Hurry Up and Wait.” Handler also wrote “All the Wrong Questions” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events” under the name Lemony Snicket. “A Series of Unfortunate Events” was a basis for a feature film and sold more than 60 million copies.

Handler’s most recent book, “Shouldn’t You Be in School,” is the third of four new Lemony Snicket novels. A book signing will follow Handler’s presentation in the PAC lobby.

Western’s Fall Family Open House is open to Western students, family members, and the general public and will be held from Friday, Oct. 24 to Sunday, Oct. 26. Festivities start on Friday and run through Sunday.
