Latino Student Union dinner is April 25

The Latino Student Union at Western Washington University will hold its 10th annual heritage dinner on Saturday, April 25. This year’s theme is “La Vida Es Un Carnaval.

The heritage dinner, which will include a live band and student performances, takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the WWU Viking Multipurpose Room. Students are encouraged to bring family and friends. Student tickets are $12, and general admission tickets are $15, and can be purchased at the University box office. To reserve seats or a table, fill out the reservation form. Reservations can be made for two to 10 people.

This year, the LSU will be having a silent auction at the heritage dinner to raise money for the LEAP 1-percent scholarship for Latino students. The Latino Educational Achievement Project was founded in 1998 to improve academic achievement of Latino students in Washington state. LEAP’s goal is for all students to graduate from high school with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for success in college and beyond, and the scholarship provides financial support for students to attend a post-secondary educational institution.

The menu for this year’s heritage dinner includes various traditional dishes from a variety of Latino cuisines, including: potato and cheese empanadas, chicken and vegetarian sopes, Brazilian donuts, agua de horchata, and corn on the cob and pan de queso.

The Latino Student Union works to promote and celebrate the unity, education, heritage and culture of the Latino community. LSU advocates for awareness on social, cultures, and identity issues faced by the Latino community worldwide.
