Kurosawa's 'Sanjuro' is next in Masters of Japanese Cinema series

Akira Kurosawa's "Sanjuro" is the next film in the Pickford Film Center's Masters of Japanese Cinema series. The follow-up to Kurosawa's wildly popular 1961 film "Yojimbo" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2.

"Sanjuro" stars Mifune Toshiro as a charismatic wandering samurai in mid-19th century Japan.

The Masters of Japanese Cinema film series is one of the Pickford's longest run and most loved series. WWU librarian and series curator Jeff Purdue consistently chooses selections that represent the very best in World Cinema. Each film features an introduction from select speakers including local professors, educators, and artists.

"Sanjuro" will be introduced by Everett Aison, who was the original U.S. distributor for "Yojimbo" (meeting both Kurosawa and Mifune in the process), and who also designed the poster for the original U.S. release. Aison is also the co-founder of the Film School at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
