Kuntz' 'Prison Pieces' dance work tells story of imprisonment

"Prison Pieces," a new dance work from Western Washington University dance instructor Pam Kuntz, tells the story of imprisonment, and its effect, from multiple perspectives, providing a richly detailed narrative told in dance, music and
voice. It is performed to an original musical score interwoven with recently conducted interview excerpts from prisoners, prison workers and the child of imprisoned parents.

The piece will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 13 and at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 14 and 15 at the Firehouse Performing Arts Center at 1314 Harris Ave. in Bellingham. Tickets for the event are $15.

Kuntz collaborated with Bellingham-based documentarian and writer Maria McLeod, who conducted and edited the audio interviews, as well as musician and Western Washington University MA candidate in musical composition Spencer
Thun. Prison Pieces, choreographed by Kuntz, is performed by Vanessa Daines, WWU employee Kate Stevenson and Alona Christman.

Kuntz was solicited to create this piece for the Regional UNESCO Conference on Prisons and Peace to be held in Mount Vernon and attended by stakeholders in the prison system.

This weekend of performances is an opportunity to share with the public.
