Kitto to explain how to submit funding proposals to the NSF Oct. 26

Kathleen Kitto, vice provost for research and dean of Western Washington University's Graduate School, will be leading a workshop for WWU faculty and staff Oct. 26 titled “The Nuts and Bolts of Submitting an NSF Proposal and Working with RSP.”

The presentation, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 in Miller Hall Room 258, is part of a series of workshops from WWU's Research and Sponsored Programs designed to help faculty and staff members write more effective proposals to external agencies. This is a new series and is in response to requests from several campus members.

Kitto will be joined by Ron Marks, an organizational development specialist from Human Resources. His portion of the workshop will focus on how the foundation of productivity is the ability to manage attention in the face of competing demands and myriad inputs.

This session is meant for those new to the proposal development and submission process. Like all sessions, it will be interactive, meant to build a community for those involved in writing proposals.

The National Science Foundation is Western's largest external partner in research funding. In winter and spring quarters, the workshop series will be centered on other agencies and private foundations.

Two additional workshops remain in fall quarter. The fourth workshop in the series, scheduled for Nov. 2, will be led by Andy Bunn and Mark Bussell, covering topics relating to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to NSF funding. The series concludes for fall quarter with chairs Bernard Housen and Joann Otto and dean emeritus Arlan Norman sharing their perspectives and wisdom on Nov. 16.
