Join the WWU Golf Fore Fun group

In the summer of 1975, Professor Jim Davis’ passion for golf inspired him to create what became known as the Western Open, a yearly golf tournament held at the Lake Padden Golf Course.  Jim was the former dean of the department of arts and sciences at Western, as well as a former political science professor, who had a passion for golf. In addition to the Western Open tournament, Davis formed an informal club where WWU golf enthusiasts could get together and play golf. The group was called Golf Fore Fun.

Jim passed away in 2003, but Western’s Golf Fore Fun is still active.

Finally, three years ago Golf Fore Fun invited Bellingham Parks and Recreation to join us as co-hosts for the group. We currently have over 100 current and retired WWU faculty and staff members, as well as many staff members from Parks and Rec.

Golf Fore Fun members sign up via email to participate at a different golf course the last Friday of every month in spring and summer. The tournaments are a scramble format where randomly drawn, four-person team members take turns hitting, and then all playing from the best team placement on each shot.  All teams compete for 1st and 2nd place, and each player is eligible for a closest to pin prize.

Many players attend each month, but many can only attend one or two tournaments a year. We are always glad for whomever can play that month.  We promote networking and playing with people you might never meet except through Golf Fore Fun.  And we are happy to keep Jim’s spirit of fun and friendly golf - alive!
