Is Western fulfilling its mission?

Are We Fulfilling Our Mission?

Western is authorized to award degrees by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), our federally recognized accreditor. One of our accreditation requirements is to set goals, or “Indicators of Mission Fulfillment,” and to reflect on our performance relative to those goals.

Seven years ago, following the strategic planning conducted under President Shepard, the University established 10 such goals. The Mission Fulfillment Report summarizes our performance relative to these targets and indicators. Designed to help prepare the campus for our comprehensive accreditation in March, this report provides an opportunity to reflect on our performance in these 10 areas. The report can be downloaded at http://www.wwu.edu/accreditation/2017/documents/Mission_Fulfillment_Yr_7.pdf.

We hope you find this document informative.  There are clear areas of pride, some in which there remains room for improvement, and some about which you might have questions.  Please let us know what you think by sending comments and questions to Gary.McKinney@wwu.edu.

A draft of the full, larger self-study report prepared for the NWCCU evaluators can be found here: http://www.wwu.edu/accreditation/2017/documents/YEAR_7_REPORT_DRAFT.pdf

Western will set new indicators of mission fulfillment next year, following this year’s strategic planning process.
