International queuing theory conference taking place on campus through Aug. 21

Western Washington University’s Center for Operations Research and Management Science is playing host to the Ninth Annual International Conference on Queuing Theory and Network Applications Aug. 18 to 21 in the Viking Union on the WWU campus.

The purpose of the QTNA conference is to bring together international researchers and practitioners to share critical issues in queuing theory and network applications.  The conference attracts the premier scholars in the world.  All previous conferences have been hosted in Asian cities.  Western Washington University will be the first university from North America to host the conference.

The conference registrants is expected to include participants from 26 different institutions, with over 30 participants coming from overseas locations.   The keynote presentation will be delivered by Qi-ming He of the University of Waterloo, Canada.  Research presentation sessions will cover topics such as optimization of production, performance analysis of server scheduling, and reliability models. 

The conference is being organized through Western’s Center for Operations Research and Management Science.  The center was established to promote research collaboration among scholars at Western and other institutions.  The center’s director is George Zhang of the Department of Decision Sciences. Sponsors for the conference include CORMS, Western’s College of Business and Economics, and Lanzhou University, China.
