Influential poetry critic Stephen Burt to visit Western Nov. 13

A reading and lecture by Stephen Burt, regarded by the New York Times as “one of the most influential poetry critics of his generation,” will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Western Washington University’s Viking Union Room 552.

This event is free and open to the public.

Burt is a poet, literary critic and professor of English at Harvard University. He has published three collections of poems: “Belmont,” “Parallel Play,” and “Popular Music.” His essay collection, “Close Calls with Nonsense,” was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His other works include “The Art of the Sonnet,” “Something Understood: Essays and Poetry for Helen Vendler,” “The Forms of Youth: Adolescence and 20th Century Poetry,” “Randall Jarrell on W. H. Auden.” and “Randall Jarrell and His Age.”

Books written by Burt will be available for purchase at the Western Associated Students Bookstore.
