In memoriam: Anna Harris, 1994 - 2013

Anna Rosemary Harris, 19, a Bellingham resident and Western Washington University student, was the victim on April 2 of a motor scooter accident while vacationing in Taiwan. Anna and her younger sister, Sophia, had traveled to Taiwan to visit longtime family friends who teach in a school there.

The Harris sisters were with the family friends riding rented scooters on Green Island, a popular visitor destination off of the southeastern coast of Taiwan. Anna was riding on a scooter when it veered off the roadway and fell down a steep ravine. Anna was killed in the accident and the other rider on the scooter suffered non-life threatening injuries. The Harris family does not have any official information about the accident or its investigation at this time.

After attending Sehome High School for two years, Anna enrolled in Running Start full time at Whatcom Community College and graduated with her Associate of Arts degree in 2012. This fall she began attending Western Washington University with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. Anna was a wonderful creative writer, especially of poetry, and was working on several young adult novels. She also played the violin.

She is survived by her parents, Timothy and Ellen Harris, and her two younger sisters, Sophia and Emily, as well as a large extended family. The family is a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 20, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2600 Lakeway Drive, Bellingham.

The Harris family is not available for media interviews and asks that their privacy be respected during this time of grieving.

An obituary for Harris has been posted on the website for Whatcom Cremation and Funeral.
