IGE seeking faculty proposals for 2018 Mongolia trip by Dec. 15

Western faculty are invited to submit proposals to the Institute for Global Engagement for research funding to be conducted in Mongolia in 2018.

Disciplines: faculty in all disciplines are eligible, but some disciplines may be more relevant to the setting and to Western’s partnerships in Mongolia (ie: Anthropology; Archaeology; Energy Studies; Entrepreneurship; Environmental Studies; Geology; History; Public Lands Management; Leadership; Liberal Studies; Librarianship; Linguistics; Mongolian/East Asian Studies; Political Science; Sustainability; Teacher Education; Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies).

Eligibility: current Western faculty for whom research is a required component of professional development.

Duration of in-country research project: 1-4 weeks Time frame: April – October 2018 is the optimal time frame for these projects Number of projects funded annually: 1 Amount of funding: up to $10,000 depending on budget and duration of project in country. Projects that include a graduate or undergraduate research assistant could earn up to $4,000 more. Additional funding may also be available from the American Center for Mongolian Studies’ Field Fellowships.

Note: Faculty are responsible for coordinating all aspects of their project, including travel (TEM), any relevant curriculum, and budget reconciliation.

Faculty accompanied by a student research assistant must also comply with University policy regarding student travel abroad. On-site coordination of logistics (housing, cultural or field visits) may be negotiated with partners in UlaanBaatar.

Deadline for proposals: Dec. 15. The Institute for Global Engagement manages the Foundation fund that makes these projects possible. IGE’s Executive Director will oversee the research awards and will assist awardees in connecting with relevant Mongolian partners. Western’s institutional partners in Mongolia include the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian National University of Education, and the American Center for Mongolian Studies.
