Governor appoints Joseph Meyer as new WWU student trustee

Joseph Meyer of Seattle has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to serve a one-year term as the student trustee at Western Washington University.

As a trustee during the 2012-13 academic year, Meyer will represent all the citizens of Washington, but give a valuable perspective to the board because of his experience as a Western student.

“Joseph Meyer is an outstanding leader with a strong record of dedication and service to our campus and to his community. We are delighted to welcome him to the board and are very pleased that we will have the opportunity for his insights as our new student trustee,” WWU President Bruce Shepard said.

Meyer, a senior, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Western in Economics/Environmental Studies with minors in Business Administration and Energy Policy.

“It is a great honor to serve as the student trustee. I look forward to working with and learning from Western’s distinguished trustees on how best to serve students and the state,” Meyer said.

Meyer brings to his appointment as a trustee dedication to the campus community through his service as the Associated Students Legislative Liaison, as chairperson of the AS Election Board, as a member of the Board for the Washington Student Association, and as an administrative aid for Western Advocates and Western Votes.

He served his community as an intern with the Washington Clean Technology Board, as a designer and leader of an Eagle Scout project with Boy Scout Troop 80 based out of Seattle, as a U.S. Senate Page in Washington .D.C., and as a Constituent Services intern for U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell.
