General Faculty Assembly to take place Oct. 20

The Faculty Senate at Western Washington University will hold a General Faculty Assembly, a public meeting of the WWU faculty, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Academic Instructional Center West Room 204.

The topic will be “Western 2025: Mission, Vision, Strategic Goals.”

Western is changing, in large part because of unavoidable outside circumstances (a.k.a. budget cuts). The Western faculty will play a key role in deciding what the university will become in these circumstances, both through work by the University Planning and Resources Council on the university's strategic plan and more broadly by participating in the choices that will shape the institution for years to come.

Faculty members should consider the following questions and bring thoughts and ideas to the assembly. A brief presentation will be followed by discussion on these and other questions that may arise. Members of the University Planning and Resources Council will be on hand to answer questions and listen.

  • What would you like Western to be in the year 2015, 2020, or 2025?
  • How do you want the university to be defined?
  • What do we wish to give to our students?
  • Which students will be attending Western in 5 years? In 20 years? Which stu-dents will not?
  • How should we maintain quality for our students?
  • In what directions should we go building relations with the world beyond the campus?

This event is hosted by the WWU Faculty Senate and the United Faculty of Western Washington.

Your participation is very important! Please make plans to attend yourself, and urge your colleagues to come as well.
