Garcia to speak on Cuban film at May 17 event

Hugo Garcia, an assistant professor of modern and classical languages at Western Washington University, will present “Cuba in Film: The Transformations of a Nation” at noon on Tuesday, May 17, in College Hall Room 131.

After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the Cuban film production has been used to build the image of the nation, but this metaphorical representation hasn’t been as stable and monolithic as it was during the first years. In his presentation, Garcia will explore how the image of the Cuban nation in film varies depending on national and international factors.

This presentation, which is free and open to the public, is part of the International Lecture Series from the Center for International Studies at WWU.
