‘Fuddy Meers’ features funhouse plot, shady characters

Western Washington University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Fuddy Meers” an absurd and catastrophic romp of comedy and toxically quirky characters, on Western’s Performing Arts Center Mainstage at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6-8 and 12-15, with matinees Feb. 9 and Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.

The play’s protagonist, Claire, has a rare form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep. To help her get through the day, her husband, Richard, has written a book of her life that she leafs through in bed each day. As Claire struggles through the day, each plot twist reveals a little more about her shrouded past as she assembles her life while fending off a cast of oddballs with hidden motives of their own.

“Fuddy Meers” is the most popular comedy penned by David Lindsay-Abaire, well-known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Rabbit Hole,” which garnered a bevy of Tony nominations. Lindsay-Abaire also provided the lyrics for the hit musical adaptation of “Shrek.”

“Fuddy Meers” is directed by Charlotte Guyette. More information is available at wwu.ed/theatredance, and tickets are available at (360) 650-6146, or online at tickets.wwu.edu.
