From Sabah: New Policy Approved Requiring Proof of COVID Vaccination Status

Dear Western Community,

In May, we announced that starting with Fall 2021, Western will be requiring proof of COVID vaccinations for all students and employees.  We believe that this vaccine requirement is an important part of helping our community come back together this fall in the safest way possible.

In support of this requirement, the University has adopted the following Policy:

POL-U1300.02 REQUIRING PROOF OF COVID VACCINATION STATUS (https://policy.wwu.edu/POL-U1300.02-Requiring-Proof-of-Covid-Vaccination-Status.pdf)

Effective July 30, 2021 this policy applies to all Western students and employees beginning with the Fall 2021 academic term.  Over the next two weeks students will receive additional specific information regarding reporting and compliance procedures through the Student Health Center.  WWU Human Resources staff will be coordinating ongoing communications for employees about reporting procedures.

Every individual in our community has sacrificed and worked together over the last 15 months during the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic to help protect one another.  Bringing more of our community back to our campuses in person this Fall depends on each of us continuing that work and using a full suite of public health and safety tools, including vaccines.

Thank you for your continued work to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities and helping us to return to a more normal education and work environment.

Sabah Randhawa
President

Please note that the procedures and infrastructure to begin exemption requests is not yet in place, and will be rolled out later this month.
