Four WWU games to be televised on ROOT Sports; first is Wednesday

Four Western Washington University regular-season home basketball games, three men’s and one women’s, will be televised live on ROOT Sports (Comcast Channel 30) over the next eight weeks.
The slate begins with the Viking men meeting Seattle Pacific on Wednesday, Jan. 15 (7 p.m.). The contest was originally scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16. WWU and SPU have met in the NCAA Division II West Regional championship game in each of the last two years, the Vikings prevailing both times.

The two other WWU men’s games being televised are against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 9 p.m. (originally 7:30 p.m.) and versus Central Washington on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.
It is the fifth straight year that the WWU-CWU contest, featuring one of most intense NCAA II rivalries in the country, will be carried on regional TV.

The televised WWU women’s basketball game will be against Simon Fraser on Saturday, March 1, at 3 p.m. (originally 7 p.m.). The Vikings defeated SFU in last year’s regional title contest.

Both the WWU men’s and women’s basketball teams reached the national semifinals last season, the men winning a national title the previous year. The Viking men are working on a school-record 35-game winning streak at Sam Carver Gymnasium and the WWU women have won their last 22 home contests.
