Four more WWU offices achieve Sustainable Office Certification awards

Western’s Office of Sustainability is pleased to announce the 2018 Western Sustainable Office Certification Awards. The reception is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, March 7, in the SMATE Education Center, SL220, from 3-4 p.m. Mallard’s vanilla ice cream, dairy free raspberry ice, and raspberry syrup by Growing Washington will be served.

Four new WWU offices have achieved certification, bringing the total to 29 out of 137 university-wide, or 25 percent of all campus administrative, clerical, services and operations offices.

•             Chemistry Department Office

•             SMATE Education Center

•             Career Services Center

•             Office of the President

In addition, five of the twenty-three Associated Students offices have achieved certification, 23 percent over all.

•             AS Club Hub

•             AS Environmental and Sustainability Programs

•             Disability Outreach Center

•             AS Publicity Center

•             AS Productions

Sustainable Office Certification reduces costs, protects the environment, conserves resources and promotes fairness, safety, and health. Administrative units responsible for clerical, managerial, professional, and/or executive business are eligible for certification. Associated Students offices are also eligible for certification.

Western’s program is inspired by universities with notable campus sustainability programs, including Harvard, University of British Columbia, UCLA, University of Oregon, and Duke, among others.
