Flags to be lowered in honor of National Guard sergeant

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, in recognition of Washington National Guard SSG Matthew McClintock, 30, of Des Moines, has directed that Washington state and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Feb. 25. McClintock was killed in action on Jan. 5 in the Helmand Province in South Afghanistan. SSG McClintock was posthumously promoted to Sergeant First Class.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Feb. 25 or first thing Friday morning, Feb. 26.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at JBLM Lewis North Chapel.
