Fairhaven's Dana Jack to speak at Village Books this Sunday

Dana Jack of Western's Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies will give a presentation at Village Books this Sunday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m. as part of a fundraiser for Bellingham's Womencare Shelter, which provides emergency shelter and support to victims of domestic violence.

Jack's presentation will focus on depression across cultures, how it differs for women and men, and how depression relates to men's violence. Slides from her research areas in Nepal will accompany the talk. Concepts will be drawn from her latest book, "Silencing the Self Across Cultures: Depression and Gender in the Social World," which received the 2012 Ursula Gielen Global Book Award from the American Psychological Association.
