Faculty member's feature film to be screened May 9 at the Pickford

The feature film "Everything Went Down," co-produced by Kacey Morrow, an assistant professor of new media design in the department of design at Western Washington University, is playing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Pickford Cinema in Bellingham.

The film, which Morrow produced with her brother, Dustin Morrow, was shot entirely in Bellingham and uses some of Western's theater students as actors. A few scenes were filmed on campus, including a scene in the KUGS radio booth.

Half of the proceeds of this one-night-only Bellingham screening will go to Music Therapy Programs for kids. Kacey Morrow will be in attendance for a question-and-answer session, along with Dustin, who directed and stars in the film.

The piece won best film and best score recently at SENE Film, Music, Arts Festival in Providence, R.I.

"Everything Went Down," a musical, tells the story of a young college professor who has become a shell of a person after the death two years earlier of his wife. Crippled by a numbing grief, he's succeeded at shutting himself off from the world. At the same time, a young singer-songwriter has begun to lose faith in the struggle to make a name for herself as a musician. Bogged down by the pressures of turning her art into commerce, she has lost sight of why she wanted to make music in the first place. The film chronicles the budding friendship between the professor and the singer, as the energy and beauty of her music begins to bring him back to life, and the value of her songs to this man reawakens her to the merits of making music.
