Faculty may apply for professional leave; apps due Oct. 15

Western Washington University faculty members may apply for professional leave to conduct research, improve their teaching abilities or participate in other endeavors that enhance their contribution to Western.

Specifically, Section 10 of the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement says this about faculty professional leave:

Professional leave is granted for the purpose of affording faculty members an opportunity to carry forward research, to improve teaching techniques or methods, or to participate in other creative endeavors which by their nature and scope enable individuals to enhance their contributions to the programs of the University.

Professional leave applications may be submitted online at the Provost’s Office website.

According to the CBA, completed applications should be submitted by department chairs to the college deans by Oct. 15 and are subsequently due from the deans to the provost by Nov. 15. Faculty applicants will be notified about decisions concerning professional leave applications by Jan. 31.

Questions about the faculty professional leave process may be directed to Bev Jones in the Provost’s Office at (360) 650-3480.
