Faculty invited to explore threshold concepts Feb. 6

What are the ideas that irreversibly changed the way you think about your discipline? Once you know them, you can make teaching decisions that transform student thinking. Threshold concepts involve identifying conceptual building blocks that potentially transform ways of thinking.

Western Washington University faculty and staff are invited to join Carmen Werder and campus colleagues to explore disciplinary-based threshold concepts, hear case stories from a panel of faculty who have put this idea into practice at an event from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in Haggard Hall Room 222.

Event attendees will have dedicated work time to identify threshold concepts in their courses.

Distinguished panelists include James Fortney (Communication Studies), Sean Dwyer (Modern and Classical Languages) and Linda Keeler (Physical Education, Health, and Recreation).

Light refreshments provided. RSVP to Justina.Brown@wwu.edu appreciated.

Co-sponsors: TLA, Writing Instruction Support, and the Center for Instructional Innovation and Assessment.
