Excessive Heat Warning set for Western Washington this weekend as Lakewood opens for summer

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Friday afternoon through Monday evening for Western Washington. Whatcom County and beyond may see several days of record-breaking temperatures, with highs in the 90s starting Friday afternoon and peaking above 100 degrees Saturday and Sunday. In addition,  overnight temperatures may not cool off as much as usual, offering little respite from the heat. Temperatures are expected to start cooling off on Tuesday, but likely will remain above normal for this time of year throughout the rest of the week.

Remember to:

  • Hydrate
  • Minimize outdoor activities in the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Don’t leave children or pets in vehicles even for a short time
  • Check on heat sensitive persons
