'Even the Rain' to kick off film series Jan. 14

The Center for International Studies will show three globally focused films during its Reel World Film Series winter quarter.

The monthly series is free and open to the public. Faculty and student organizations are encouraged to suggest films that can supplement a course, an event or a discussion that raises awareness about other cultures, about global issues or about viewing the world from different perspectives.

The winter lineup:

  • "Even the Rain" - 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14 in Viking Union Room 552: A Spanish film crew revisioning the conquest of Latin America comes up against multi-national corporations that are exploiting local communities.
  • "Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars" - 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in VU 552: A group of musicians form a band in a West African refugee camp to keep their hope alive.
