Ethan Glemaker is new WWU Associated Students president

Ethan Glemaker has been elected Western Washington University’s Associated Students president for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The Associated Students is both the association of all WWU students and the official student governing body. The AS is responsible for providing a framework for a variety of experiential learning opportunities and serving as a vehicle for student involvement in the governance of the university.

As president, Glemaker will be chairperson of AS board meetings, oversee AS operations and represent the Associated Students to the university’s Board of Trustees.

"To be elected AS president is an honor to which I can hardly assign words. I feel incredibly grateful and simultaneously empowered by the amount of confidence and support I have received from Western's student body," Glemaker said. "It will be with great honor that I work with the six AS vice presidents as well as the university administration to be a strong advocate for students and actively represent their voices. It is our responsibility to seek out student voices and I have the utmost confidence in myself and in next year’s six vice presidents to do so actively and effectively."

Glemaker, a junior at Western and a native of Elk, Wash., is an English Literature major with a Secondary Education interest. He also is earning a second major in an interdisciplinary concentration tentatively titled "Diversity and the Cultural Creation of Identity in the Classroom."
