Environmental clubs to hold gala Wednesday

The Associated Students environmental clubs at Western Washington University are holding a "Green Tie Gala" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.

The event includes a classy dinner catered by the Student Food Co-op and live jazz performed by WWU students. John Miles, a Western environmental studies professor will be the keynote speaker.

Tickets are $7 students and faculty and $10 for community members.

The general schedule:

5:45 to 6:15 p.m. - Doors open! Get there early to purchase your ticket at the doors to the MPR. WWU student jazz combo music with Alexa Peters, Alec van Staveren, Samuel Eisen-Meyers, Dylan Andrew Mariettakes Blake, Nick Wees and Leona Oliveros will begin the night.

6:15 to 7 p.m. - Opening announcements and introductions. Club members will talk about their work and inspiration and explain how others can get involved. Then, Miles will speak.

7 to 7:45 p.m. - Green bowtie raffle and WWU Student Food Co-op catered fantastic dinner.

Menu:

  • Salad: Rhubarb, orange, apple, leek, snap pea salad with an agave, mint, orange dressing
  • Main: Garbanzo bean flour pizzas with cilantro pesto and marinated vegetables
  • Dessert: Baked Raspberry Dessert Bars
  • Drinks: Horchata, drip coffee, teas, lemonade and water

An environmental justice community visioning discussion will take place during dessert.
