Employees: Parking Permits Are Required for Fall Quarter

To all WWU employees,

In order to better fit the needs of Western employees during this period of remote operations, Transportation Services is pleased to announce several adjustments and additions to employee parking options for Fall Quarter.

Parking Permits Are Required for Fall Quarter

Permits are required when parking on campus this fall. Employees who will be parking regularly can continue to use their quarterly, academic, or annual permits as in previous quarters. Individuals who are or will be working remotely and do not need to park on campus, can return their permits for a refund by emailing transportation@wwu.edu.

Those who only need to park occasionally may benefit from the new pay-by-day parking option.  Details of this new option can be found below, see “New Pay-by-Day Permit Option for Intermittent Parkers”.

Seniority and Lot Assignments Are Retained for All Parkers

Employees who return their current permit will retain their parking lot assignment and seniority through the academic year. Employees will automatically be offered the opportunity to obtain a permit for their original parking lot prior to the beginning of winter quarter. Individuals who determine that they need a quarterly, academic, or annual permit prior to, or after, the automatic winter quarter offer, can reach out to Transportation Services at transportation@wwu.edu at any time to request their permit back. Employees who return and later request their permit prior to the end of the academic year will not be required to reapply for a permit through the waitlist system.

New Pay-by-Day Permit Option for Intermittent Parkers

To better accommodate individuals who are primarily working remotely but may need to park occasionally on campus, we are offering a pay-by-day parking permit option at a rate similar to the daily parking rate when using a quarterly or annual permit. This allows employees who need to occasionally park on campus the ability to park in their original lot, while only paying for parking on the days needed.

The pay-by-day parking option uses the ParkMobile Parking app and is available for all employee campus parking lots for $2.25/day. To try the pay-by-day permit option, email transportation@wwu.edu.

Zone Parking Remains in Effect into Fall Quarter

Zone parking will continue to be active this fall as it has been throughout summer term and intersession. Employees who are parking using a quarterly, academic, annual, or the new pay-by-day permit option can park in a wider variety of campus lots. See below for an overview of which permits are valid in which lots.

All employee permit holders can park in any of the Blue Zone parking lots. Restricted parking lots continue to require lot specific permits.  A campus parking map can be found at https://www.wwu.edu/map/wwu_permit_parking.pdf

Additional 20-Minute Spaces Available Fall Quarter

Transportation Services has added temporary 20-minute spaces near the entrances of most buildings. These spaces will accommodate employees who need to pick-up and drop-off items or for other quick turn-around parking needs. This will reduce the need to purchase a parking permit for a quick visit to campus.

We are confident that these parking adjustments and additional permit choices will increase flexibility for employees who drive to campus. Depending on where you live, consider accessing campus by walking, riding a bike, or taking the bus, rather than driving; WTA buses are currently running fare free. If you have any questions regarding any of the information in this email or other transportation related items, please contact us.

Thank you,

Transportation Services
